What is the motivation behind GGY?
GGY emerged with the thoughts of kindling the next-gen leadership by providing an avenue to the brightest minds of India, to experience Policy in Action. It is an attempt to enable the aspiring change-makers experience policy in action, and learn the intricacies of the duo of vision-action from the prodigies itself.
GGY aims to deepen democracy by bringing in a more direct participation between government and the citizens, by showcasing the islands of excellence in the realm of public policy and governance, to the nation.
What kind of projects will we get to see in this expedition? Who all will be get a chance to interact with?
The governance projects will cover various domains of public policy like urban/rural development, energy, tourism, waste management, education, and health. In addition to live project visits, we will also be interacting with the governance in-charge of the project, and know in-depth about the project.
What will be the daily routine during the travel?
Varying. You should be willing to follow a flexible routine, depending on travel and project timings.
Overall, it is likely to be a mix of 1-2 project visits, 2-3 interactive sessions, few learning activities, and loads of discussions.
What are the travel and food arrangements?
Travel: the entire contingent will be moving via an AC/sleeper luxury bus like Volvo or similar, and hygienic vegetarian food will be made available on the bus itself.
Will there be medical assistance on the bus?
We will be carrying a basic medical kit during the course of travel, and medical assistance will be made available during project visits. However, all delegates are required to carry their prescribed personal medicines with themselves.
What are the safety provisions for the Yatris?
Your safety is of our prime importance. There will be trained male-female volunteers throughout the journey for your assistance.
How do I cope with language differences on the Yatra?
The medium of communication will be primarily English. You need to be comfortable in English to make the most of the Yatra.
How is the accommodation taken care of during the journey?
In the bus/train! We will be having accommodation in the bus/train itself, for most of the days during the travel.
However, during project visits on some days, we might be staying in local accommodation arrangements.
What is the eligibility criteria to apply for the Yatra?
People of the age-group 18-45 years, having academic background or past experience of working towards policy or governance either through politics, bureaucracy or civil society groups. Detailed selection process is available here.
What is the criteria for rolling out scholarships?
Scholarships are available for 50% of the delegates in the range of ₹5000 to ₹ 26000 per delegate. Scholarships will be awarded on a merit-cum-means basis to the deserving candidates, based on video essay in the application form.
What is the difference between Phase 1 and Phase 2 applications?
80% of the selections will be made from Phase 1 applicants only. Rest of the selections are to be made from Phase 2 applications. Please note that chances of selection and scholarships are higher in Phase 1.
Do I have to pay for the application form?
No, application process for GGY is completely free.

Does the entire online application need to be completed within one session?
Yes. To ensure this, we request you to first write your thoughts offline, and then convert the same to online form for Step 2 of the application form.
