Build better schools.
Year 1: Travel and study curriculum from different school systems in India and outside. Meet and take inputs from different stakeholders in education (teachers, students, parents, educationists etc). This research feeds into your overall research on school education. Design a plan for scalable interventions in existing schools.
Year 2: Implement the interventions in partner schools, create new partnerships and new interventions relevant to the school’s environment. Analyze the impact of the interventions. The work from Year 1 continues into Year 2 as well, providing regular inputs and feedback.
Year 3: Strengthen the interventions and the existing study by continuous evaluation and feedback from mentors/stakeholders. Improve upon the work done over the first two years and build a framework for setting up a dream school.
Intended Career: Educationist OR Education-entrepreneur
Start your own school or join a like-minded team to start one (VIF will support the fellow in raising funds and developing partnerships for the dream school). Associate with VIF to establish an all-new system of education (imagine a new board) and transform India.
Location: Delhi + Travel
Study India of the first millennium.
Year 1 and 2: Study India’s ancient history (1st millennium) with regards to political conquests, governance, institutions, social and economic systems etc. Visit historic sites for first-hand exposure to relevant points in history. Converge the study in the form of a book and a series of articles. Prepare for an advanced degree in the field (Masters/MPhil/PhD), complete the academic and logistic requirements for admission.
Year 3: Move to one of the top universities in the world for an academic study in the field (VIF helps in identifying and connecting to appropriate universities/professors for pursuing an advanced degree).
Intended Career: Academician
Complete a PhD in history (and/or allied subjects). As an academician, teach the next generation of students and continue pioneering work on Indian history.
Strategic and Foreign Studies (F1705)
Strengthen India globally.
Year 1: Analyze current and strategic affairs in light of India’s foreign relations. Write regular articles, policy briefs and scholarly papers on foreign policy. Prepare for book-writing in the later part of the fellowship.
Year 2: Identify specific topics of interest within foreign affairs and get more rigorous in their study. Provide policy inputs to government and political leaders working on foreign policy. Prepare for book-writing.
Year 3: Continue the work from first two years and converge thoughts in the form of a book on strategic agenda for India.
Intended Careers: Academician OR Bureaucrat (Indian Foreign Service) OR Political Leader
Pursue an advanced degree (Masters/PhD) in international relations and become an academician, OR, prepare for the civil services and become a diplomat to work within the system, OR, become a political leader/thinker and help in advancing India’s interest globally.
Executive Assistance to Elected Representatives (F1707)
Improve a constituency.
Year 1: Work with an elected representative to drive high-impact projects in the constituency. Establish/improve mechanisms of service delivery, grievance redressal and the elected leader’s engagement with the constituents. Take support from others at VIF in identifying best practices in governance and piloting them in the constituency.
Year 2: It’s the campaign year! Depending on which leader you are selected to work with, continue and improve on the work from Year 1, OR, assist them in the political campaign for the next elections.
Year 3: Eventually move to your own constituency and initiate socio-political work. All this while, keep developing thoughts on political systems, reforms and governance in India.
Intended Career: Politics OR Political Consulting
Build a political base, join a political party and eventually contest elections in your home constituency (VIF will support in creating a good governance framework for your home constituency), OR, help other elected representatives, political parties and governments as a consultant.

Fellowship is a full-time program for three years. It has three components:
- Work (WR): Activities directly related to the project. This will take up ~67% (two-third) of the time
- Training (TR): Workshops and training programs organized by VIF. This takes ~16.5% (one-sixth) of the time
- Personal Profile (PR): Preparing for a career post the fellowship. This takes ~16.5% (one-sixth) of the time
The time distribution has been prepared considering a 56-hour week (including all components). Each component will be mentored.
Some projects mention that the location is yet to be declared. The location will be provided to the shortlisted applicants for those projects.
